What is LPWAN?
LPWAN (Low-Power Wide-Area Network) is an approach in radio communications used for devices and large wireless telemetry networks. Its features are low-power consumption and wide-area coverage.

Any existing wireless data transmission technologies have such characteristics as range, speed and energy efficiency. Moreover, only 2 out of 3 can be matched at the same time.

LPWAN technology provides energy-efficient data transmission over long distances. The Elecface, using the LPWAN approach, creates devices capable of transmitting information for tens of kilometers and at the same time working for several years on a single battery.

The Elecface makes it easy to create a network in which one base station collects data within a radius of up to 10 kilometers in urban conditions from hundreds of thousands of different types of autonomous sensors. At the same time it remains cheaper and more reliable than traditional solutions.

Other wireless technologies

Existing wireless technologies are not capable of transmitting small data over long distances with high autonomy and low connection cost. As a rule, such applications belong to the sphere of the Internet of things.

The approach used for data transmission in LPWAN networks is similar to the principle of cellular networks. Smart sensors or meters transmit the signal to the radio. Base stations receive and digitize signals from LPWAN devices, transmitting them further to the server. On servers, data from all stations in the network is processed and provided in a user-friendly form. The reverse communication channel allows you to control devices remotely.

However, unlike mobile communication technology, The Elecface uses its own LPWAN protocol, which allows data to be transmitted over tens of kilometers and ensures the autonomous operation of sensors for up to 10 years without replacing the battery.
Advantages of the LPWAN protocol:
Low cost
Some industries are already using wireless solutions today: ATMs, security systems, vending machines, etc. They usually work through the networks of mobile operators, because it is profitable, despite the high cost.

In industries where the cost of a connection point is a key parameter, using traditional solutions to build a network will be too expensive. However, the use of an energy-efficient long-range network is economically justified. The cost of accounting points and communication services is several times lower with the Elecface technology.
Up to 10 km range
It has a high penetrating ability and at the same time does not require the construction of a complicated network architecture. The Elecface technology is much better suited for building a wireless network than cellular communication. Tens of square kilometers can be covered by a single base station. Building such type of network is easier, and maintenance is cheaper.

Similar approach becomes the only alternative if the sensors are spread over a large area, such as water meters within one microdistrict or soil moisture sensors placed on several fields at once.
10 years of battery life
The vast majority of telematics devices require autonomous battery power with a service life of several years.

The Elecface devices do not need a lot of energy to send a data packet, which lasts on average a second. The rest of the time the device "sleeps". As a result, the AA-type battery lasts for several years, saving money and time for the maintenance of the system as a whole.
System scalability
The maximum number of accounting points that one base station can simultaneously serve is practically unlimited. One the Elecface station can receive data from several hundred thousand devices within its range. The Elecface network is scaled to the desired size only by adding new sensors without intermediate equipment, mesh-architecture and reducing reliability.
A variety of devices can work simultaneously on the Elecface network. For example, one base station can receive data from water, electricity and heat meters, leak sensors, door openings or the presence of smoke.
Collecting telemetry where the mobile network does not reach
Thanks to its autonomy, the Elecface sensors can transmit data in places where there is no coverage by cellular operators. Simple examples: agricultural industry with huge areas of fields or forestry far from urban infrastructure.

The communication channel between the base station and the server can be selected depending on the prevailing conditions: from conventional GPRS to satellite VSAT.
High penetrating ability
The peculiarity of the Elecface radio communication protocol is its high penetrating power. Signal transmission is possible from basements and through thick walls.

Practical tests confirm that the base station installed on the roof of a 24-storey building successfully receives signals from devices located in the basement of the same house.
Does not require licensing
Transmission takes place at a frequency of 868.8 MHz (does not require licensing) with a power of up to 25 MW. On this frequency range, free use of radio transmitting devices is allowed on the basis of the Decisions of the GRFC.
The use of an open frequency range does not imply an increase in the cost of building wireless LPWAN networks.
Ease of use
You do not need to create a complex architecture to deploy a network and start transmitting data from your devices. Take a suitable modem, connect it to your metering device or use a ready-made the Elecface device.

Traditional solutions require the use of intermediate hubs, repeaters and other communication equipment, which reduces the reliability of the network and increases the cost. With the Elecface you don't need any of this!

How is LPWAN technology useful?

The Elecface technology based on LPWAN makes it possible to quickly build an LPWAN network for collecting telemetry. High autonomy of end devices, long data transmission distance, minimal set of equipment and low cost of implementation are the main advantages of the Elecface solutions.
The Elecface makes it easy to create a network in which one base station collects data within a radius of 40 kilometers from hundreds of thousands of different types of autonomous sensors and at the same time remains cheaper and more reliable than traditional solutions.
Branches of application
The Elecface technology is universal and suitable for use in a variety of industries.
